This map compares each state's month-over-month selling price for July 2018. In the light gray states, prices have gone up between June and July. This would suggest a seller's market where buyers may face increased competition. South Dakota, Oklahoma, Vermont, and New York had the highest month-over-month price increases — all above 7% — likely indicating that their housing markets are gaining strength. South Dakota had the largest increase at 25.2%. The housing boom in South Dakota is hoped to be followed by a boom in businesses in the area.

The full data lists the median selling prices in June 2018 and July 2018 for each state. The actual numbers can give some insight into the amount of inventory compared to demand from homebuyers. According to the data, 21 states saw selling prices increase in July 2018. Median selling prices are currently over $300,000 in many popular seller's markets including Hawaii, District of Columbia, California, Massachusetts, Colorado and Washington. Hawaii had the highest median selling price in July 2018 at $553,500.1
