These graphs show how homebuyers are paying for new single-family homes. According to the second graph, the number of sales of new single-family homes roughly decreased by 22% compared to the second quarter of 2018. The decrease in sales may be a result of seasonality.

The data provides a closer look at how homebuyers are paying for new single-family homes. The percentage of sales financed by conventional loans was slightly lower than last quarter at 74%. This decrease in conventional loans resulted in a decrease of total sales during this quarter.

Cash sales reached two-year highs in the second quarter of 2018 and remained at 7% in the third quarter of 2018.

Roughly 13% of homebuyers purchased their homes with FHA loans in the third quarter. Sales by VA Guaranteed loans reached two-year lows in the third quarter of 2018.1

For purposes of this chart, percentages have been rounded, leading some totals to appear not to equal 100%.
