The above map illustrates the change in each state’s selling price from October 2018 to November 2018.1 Nationally, the selling price increased by 1.9%, which indicates a stronger seller’s market. It also shows a general improvement aſter prices dropped 0.5% in September 2018.

Thirty-four states had an increase, with New York (18.3% increase) and South Dakota (17.0%) leading the charge. Home prices in Virginia could see even further rises aſter Amazon announced in November it would open up headquarters there. South Dakota is experiencing a turnaround aſter prices dropped by 13.7% from August 2018 to September 2018.

Overall, the increase was moderate. Four states did not see any change in selling prices, while 15 states were in the -1% to 1% range. The largest decrease was in West Virginia, where the average dropped by 4.8%.
